Real-World Agent Chain Examples: What Teams Are Actually Building

Theory is nice. Let's look at what's actually running. These are real chain patterns from Mentiko early access teams, with the manual process they replaced and the results they're seeing.

Example 1: Daily sales intelligence brief

Before: A sales manager spent 45 minutes each morning reading competitor blogs, checking pricing pages, and scanning LinkedIn for news. The intel was in their head, not shared with the team.

Chain:

WebMonitor -> ChangeDetector -> Analyst -> BriefWriter -> EmailSender

What each agent does:

  • WebMonitor: Checks 15 competitor websites for changes (pricing, features, blog posts)
  • ChangeDetector: Filters noise, identifies meaningful changes
  • Analyst: Contextualizes changes ("Competitor X dropped prices 10% -- likely responding to our Q4 campaign")
  • BriefWriter: Produces a 3-paragraph summary with action items
  • EmailSender: Delivers to the sales team Slack channel by 8am

Example 2: PR code review pipeline

DiffReader -> LogicAnalyzer -> SecurityScanner -> StyleChecker -> ReviewCompiler

What each agent does:

  • DiffReader: Parses the git diff, identifies changed files and functions
  • LogicAnalyzer: Checks for edge cases, null handling, error paths
  • SecurityScanner: OWASP checks, injection risks, auth issues
  • StyleChecker: Team conventions, naming, documentation requirements
  • ReviewCompiler: Combines findings into a single review comment, prioritized by severity

Example 3: Weekly content pipeline

What each agent does:

What each agent does:

  • ConfidenceChecker: Evaluates if the response actually answers the question
  • Router: High confidence (>0.9) -> auto-send. Medium (0.7-0.9) -> queue for review. Low (<0.7) -> escalate to human.

Example 5: Monthly data quality audit

Before: A data engineer ran manual queries once a month to check for data issues. Found problems weeks after they started. Dashboards showed wrong numbers until someone noticed.

SchemaChecker -> NullAuditor -> DistributionAnalyzer -> TrendComparer -> ReportGenerator

What each agent does:

  • SchemaChecker: Compares current schema to expected schema, flags drift
  • NullAuditor: Checks null rates per column, flags increases
  • DistributionAnalyzer: Compares value distributions to historical baselines
  • TrendComparer: Identifies anomalous trends (sudden drops, spikes, flatlines)
  • ReportGenerator: Compiles findings into a Slack-friendly report with severity ratings

The pattern

Every example follows the same structure:

  1. A manual process that was too slow, too expensive, or too inconsistent
  2. Broken into 4-6 specialized agents, each doing one thing well
  3. Connected by events, triggered by schedule or webhook
  4. Quality gates preventing bad output from reaching humans
  5. Dramatic improvement in speed, cost, or consistency

The chains themselves aren't complex. The value comes from reliability and consistency. An agent chain that runs every morning at 6am never calls in sick, never forgets, and never has a bad day.
